Welcome to COVID Transmissions by me, John Skylar, PhD.

A little about me: I am a science communications professional whose PhD training was in emerging RNA viruses that leap from bats into humans. I am told that this bears some small relevance to current events.

Over the past months of the pandemic, I have become, in the words of the folks who regularly contact me for information, a sort of “COVID Rebbe” for their questions about navigating this unprecedented situation.

This has made me realize that there is a need for a newsletter that will collect the thoughts and content regarding COVID-19 that come across my desk on a daily basis.

I plan to distribute a variety of content through this list, primarily focused on virus science but extending to other areas of surviving these strange times.

I think it’s important to keep this as freely available as possible, but I admit I can make a better newsletter if I take paid subscribers.

So, I intend to offer the option of a “pay what you wish” model that will provide some additional bonus content. Any funds received will go purely towards supporting the content of the newsletter. Most content will be free, but I will show my appreciation to subscribers through some additional features and content.

In other words, if you like this thing and you want to help me make it an even better thing, some dollars would be nice, but are not at all expected.
